Land connected: eSIM before you fly
Your phone can work before your plane lands. Most newcomers arrive with an eSIM-capable phone (iPhone 11 and newer, most Pixels and Galaxies from the last few years). Buy a prepaid eSIM online, scan the QR code, and you touch down with a Canadian number — handy for the bank, job applications, and every two-factor code.
The dual-SIM trick: keep your home-country SIM in the physical slot. Your home bank’s texts still reach you while your Canadian number handles everything local.

Fido, Koodo and Virgin Plus are the discount brands of Rogers, TELUS and Bell — same networks, lower prices. Postpaid can mean a credit check; prepaid above has none.

Honest notes
- Freedom’s coverage caveat: the cheapest data per gigabyte, but the signal thins out fast outside cities and major highways. Fine if you stay urban — check their coverage map if you travel.
