1. How newcomerkit.ca is Funded
newcomerkit.ca is an independent project dedicated to providing free tools and guides for newcomers to Canada. To fund domain costs and ongoing research without charging users a subscription or cluttering pages with intrusive banner ads, we plan to partner with reputable service providers through affiliate relationships.
When you click a link on our website to a service (such as ExpressVPN, Proton, or NordVPN) and sign up, we may receive a referral commission from the provider. Current status at launch: our outbound links are direct, non-affiliate links — we have not yet been accepted into any affiliate programme.
- You pay the exact same price (or lower, if our link includes a promotional discount).
- You are never charged extra because of our links.
- Our recommendations are based strictly on practical merit for newcomers, not commission payout rates.
2. Editorial Independence & Unpaid Inclusions
We believe that to be truly valuable to newcomers, we must recommend the best tool for the job — whether they have an affiliate program or not.
For example, Mullvad VPN has zero affiliate programs and pays us nothing. Yet we prominently feature and recommend Mullvad on our comparison tables because their privacy architecture (account numbers with no email requirement) is genuinely exceptional.
3. Zero-Tracking Privacy Policy
We practice what we preach:
- No Google Analytics or invasive tracking pixels: We do not track your browsing across the internet or record your screen.
- No Cookies Set by Our Site: newcomerkit.ca sets zero tracking or advertising cookies on your machine. Any affiliate cookies are set on the destination merchant's site if and only when you voluntarily click through to their platform.
- Zero Server Logging of Client Tool Inputs: Our password checker, quiz, and PIPEDA generator execute 100% inside your local web browser. The IP check queries a third-party IP-detection service (api.ipify.org) solely to detect your address — your inputs never touch our servers.
- Compliance: Our privacy-first architecture is designed to make compliance with Canadian federal PIPEDA standards and Quebec Law 25 straightforward.
